How long are the lines at the Roman Forum?

Compared with the Colosseum, the Forum is easy: lines are usually short and the site is huge, so crowds spread out. Use a quieter entrance

Via di San Gregorio (Palatine Hill): usually the calmest way in, a few minutes' walk from Colosseo metro.

Largo Romolo e Remo: on Via dei Fori Imperiali, near the Mamertine Prison, at the other end of the Forum.

Via Sacra: the main gate near the Arch of Titus. Convenient after the Colosseum, but the busiest.

Best (and worst) times to go

At opening: cooler, quieter, and the morning light on the temples is beautiful.

Worst: midday in summer. There's very little shade.
