How to Beat the Line at Galata Tower
The Galata Tower line is famously slow, because the bottleneck is the lift, not the ticket desk, so even with a ticket you'll queue. Your best chance is to be there for opening, ticket already bought online. Avoid late morning and sunset, and look at the queue before you commit: if it wraps round the square, come back another time.

Why is the Galata Tower line so long?
The Galata Tower is narrow, and visitors go up in a small lift to the sixth floor, then climb the last two floors to the balcony. Only so many people fit at the top at once. So the queue on the square isn't really a ticket queue: it's a wait for space in the tower.
That's why visitors report the line regularly hitting 45-60 minutes by late morning, and some in summer described it wrapping round the square and barely moving for well over an hour. Buying online skips the ticket office, but not the lift queue.
