How busy is Borobudur?
To protect the monument, climbing is limited to a daily quota split into timed slots, each led by a local guide, and climbers wear special woven upanat sandals. On busy days, climb slots sell out in advance. The grounds around the temple get crowded with school groups and domestic visitors from mid-morning, especially on weekends and holidays.
