Oshino Hakkai: When to Go Before the Tour Buses
Oshino Hakkai, a village of eight spring-fed ponds at the foot of Mount Fuji, is free to walk, but it's packed with tour buses from about 10 am to 3 pm. Arrive before 9 am for calm ponds and the clearest Fuji reflection, or after 4 pm. The crystal-clear water is Fuji snowmelt, filtered underground for decades. Allow 1-1.5 hours.
